After leaving the bases loaded in the second and third innings and runners at the corners in the fourth, the Santa Barbara Foresters finally got it going to pick up a 4-2 victory over the visiting Seattle Studs at Caesar Uyesaka Stadium on Saturday.
“It was a little uncharacteristic for us to leave so many runners, but their pitcher was pretty good and overall I thought we did well,” said manager Bill Pintard.
Santa Barbara (10-4) did all of its damage in the fifth inning after falling behind 1-0. Jeremy Rathjen led off with a single and James Wharton was then hit by a pitch. Jared Womack singled to load the bases and Kyle Kubitza followed with a two-run single. Michael Ratterree and Ryan Hawthorne nabbed RBIs before the inning ended.
Carson Smith, a lanky right-hander from Texas State, made his debut for the Foresters and gave up no earned runs, striking out six over five innings.
Chris Joyce will start for Santa Barbara in Sunday’s 1 p.m. rematch.
