John Baur, whose score helped lift Santa Barbara High into the CIF/SCGA State Boys Golf Championships, will be the first up on the tee Tuesday as the Dons go against five other schools in quest of a state title at the Santa Maria Country Club.
Santa Barbara will be battling for the team title with Torrey Pines, Servite, Pleasanton-Foothill, Sacramento-Christian Brothers and Folsom in the one-day tournament on the par-72 course.
The Dons enter the tournament as the No. 3 team from the SCGA/CIF Southern Regional. Baur was instrumental in the team nabbing the final qualifying spot as he shot a team-low 2-under 70 that day at the SCGA Golf Course in Murrieta.
Baur tees off at 7:30 a.m. on hole No. 1
The other members of the Dons team and their scheduled tees times are Jack Perry (8:15) Shane Lebow (8:06), Mickey Kirby (7:57), Sean Searls (7:48) and Ray Gerow (7:39). They have a slight advantage going in as they’ve all played at Santa Maria Country Club for junior golf tournaments.
Torrey Pines and Servite finished one-two at the Southern Region. Foothill won the Northern Regional title at Diablo Grande Golf Club in Patterson while Folsom and Christian Brothers tied for second place, four shots back.
The five best scores of six players will count in determining the team champion.
