Binder, Coombs are leading women at Nite Moves

It was women’s day at Nite Moves No. 7 at Leadbetter Beach as the weekly endurance event staged special swim and aquathon categories for female competitors Wednesday.

Adrienne Binder, a former San Marcos High star and Auburn University All-American, won the women’s 1-kilometer ocean swim in 14 minutes, 18 seconds. Karen Schultz came in second (15:32) and Laura Coombs of San Luis Obispo was third (15:35).

The eager ones take off at the beginning of Wednesday's Nite Moves 5k run.

Coombs took the swim-run aquathon in 39:47. Her 5-k run time was 24:13

Coombs, 26, has won several triathlons in her career and placed seventh in her age group in the Ironman World Championships in Hawaii.

Danielle Lipski of Carpinteria finished second in the aquathon (43:31) and Andria Martinez of Santa Barbara was third (45:26).

COMPLETE RESULTS

The open aquathon was taken by Santa Barbara’s Chris Arntz in 38:04 (16:07 swim, 21:57 run). Ben Leinfelder was second (38:38) and Carl Parker third (39:19).

It was child’s play in the open swim as 13-year-old John Salman won in 14:08 and Walker Bell, 12, finished second in 14:12. Chad Segal, 24, was third in 14:17.

In the 5-k run, Moorpark’s Jeff Boyd, 30, ran away to victory in 15:56. He was followed by teens Jacob Bartholomew, 16, of Goleta in 17:16 and Santa Barbaran Max Davis, 15, in 17:25.
