Santa Barbara High’s slugging first baseman Trey Barrett has been named the Channel League’s most valuable player for the 2010 season, as the senior was a driving force behind the Dons’ league championship.
Barrett connected for six of his eight home runs in league games this year, highlighted by a two-home run performance in a win over Dos Pueblos on March 24. The first baseman was a big time run producer for the Dons, knocking in 21 runs in just 12 league games. Barrett blossomed his senior year, moving from all-league honorable mention in 2009 to MVP in 2010.
Five Dons teammates made the first team: Danny Zandona, Joey Gonzales, Cameron Gniadek, Collin Dewell and Jack Crummer.
League runner-up San Marcos placed three players on the first team. Senior Nick Stathopoulos was recognized, as was junior catcher Riley Moore and sophomore first baseman Jimmy Brakka. David Kim was placed on the second team.
Six Dos Pueblos Chargers are on the first and second teams, led by first-teamers Corey Micheel and Joe Huthsing.
