Warriors whacked by Oaks

Oaks Christian scored three times in the final two innings on Wednesday against visiting Carpinteria, providing the necessary separation with the Warriors to record a 6-3 Tri-Valley League victory.

The decision moved the league-leading Lions to 9-0 while the Warriors fall to 5-6. The two teams will get together again on Friday in Carpinteria.

Steven Blum and Zach Boberg had RBI hits for the Warriors, with Boberg’s double scoring Trevor Madden to tie the game at 3-3 in the top of the fifth. A pair of errors helped Oaks Christian get its late runs, dooming the Warriors.

Carpinteria finishes up its regular season with two non-league games with Santa Paula next week. Handing the Lions their first league loss on Friday, which would be “a tall order” according to Warriors head coach Pat Cooney, would solidify a playoff spot for Carpinteria. If not, Carpinteria would need help next week to make the postseason.
