Warriors wail on Cardinals

Carpinteria’s baseball team wasn’t lean on runs Tuesday, collecting 17 of them in a 17-2 thumping of Santa Paula.

Four Carpinteria pitchers combined on a five-hitter, striking out 13 without allowing an earned run. Steven Blum started, was relieved by Trevor Madden in the third, followed by Victor Garcia in the fifth and Zach Boberg in the seventh.

The bats also contributed to the non-league win, as Blum, Madden and Robert Thornton all recorded three hits and totaled right RBIs between the three of them.

The Warriors, who were no-hit in their last game, went down 1-2-3 in the first inning before unleashing five runs with two outs in the second inning to jump-start the offense. Carpinteria’s biggest inning was an eight-run seventh.

Carpinteria and Santa Paula meet again on Thursday while the Warriors await to learn their postseason fate. Carpinteria has already finished its league schedule but must wait and see how Fillmore and Malibu fare this week before playoff scenarios are finalized.
