Carpinteria’s softball team scored four runs in the first inning on Thursday and wound up with a 12-2 win over visiting Malibu. The Warriors finish the regular season in third place in the Frontier League, and will find out on Monday whether their postseason journey will begin in a wild-card round or not.
Tatiana Verdugo pitched three strong innings to get the win for Carpinteria (13-8, 4-4). Dakotah Wilcox and Roxy Hugo each hit homers, and Catalina Maldonado hit a triple. Malibu finished the season winless in league play.
“This gives us a good jump heading into the playoffs,” said coach Henry Gonzales.
