Cate’s baseball team erupted for 16 runs in their Condor League finale on Tuesday, a good thing too, because Dunn was almost as productive in a 16-13 decision in favor of the Rams.
The two teams combined for 29 runs, 20 hits, 19 walks and four home runs.
Cate’s George Luo had a career day, going 4-for-4 with three doubles and a home run. Luo scored four times in the game and also recorded two RBIs and two stolen bases.
Jackson Mauze also hit a home run for the Rams and Drew Redmond hit a bases-clearing double in a 10-run third inning for Cate.
The league victory clinches second place and a CIF playoff berth for the Rams.
Cate’s head coach Ben Soto thanked his players, two-thirds of which are freshmen or sophomores, for their steady improvement and his coaches for a job well done in getting Cate to the playoffs.
First-round matchups for CIF will be released on Monday.
