Santa Barbara High’s Karl Boscacci and Dos Pueblos’ Chase Racich will be in the hunt for CIF titles on Friday after qualifying for the finals on Wednesday at CIF Prelims held at Belmont Plaza in Long Beach.
Boscacci placed fifth in the 500 freestyle and eighth in the 200 to make the finals in both events while Racich sprinted to a fifth-place result in the 100-meter freestyle.
Dos Pueblos’ boys 4×100 freestyle relay team, Nolan Gardner, Josh Pighetti, Theo Coyne and Racich, also qualified for Friday’s finals by placing in sixth place.
The Chargers’ 4×50 relay team of Gardner, Pighetti, Christian Terpening and Racich just missed the finals by placing in ninth but will swim in the consolation race instead. It was the same deal for the 200 medley relay as Darrell Eacret, Terpening, Gardner and Pighetti combined to qualify for the consolation final with a ninth place finish.
The Chargers are doing well as a team, qualifying for Friday in eight events.
“In all it was a great meet for us,” said Chargers coach Chris Parrish.
For Santa Barbara, Boscacci will stand alone.
“We’re really excited about Karl’s two swims,” said Dons head coach Mark Walsh.
Walsh was also encouraged by the fact that his girls relay team will be back intact, consisting of Kelsey O’Brien, Maddie Trabucco, Makenzy Fowler, and Samantha King.
San Marcos’ 4×50 girls relay team held their own, placing where they were seeded in 20th. That team included Flo Chardon, Jade Fitzgerald, Sarah Thwing and Zoe Kirker.
“It was the last swims for Flo and Jade,” said Royals girls head coach Brian Roth. “I know how much the program is really going to miss them.”
