San Marcos’ day was filled with good news at Saturday’s CIF Prelims, as a good number of the Royals track & field team qualified for next weeknd’s finals.
Elysia Hodges will be competing in three events, including the 400 and two relays. Hodges placed third in the 300 hurdles with a time of 45.31 seconds and then ran one of the better races in San Marcos school history in the 200 right after. Hodges’ time of 25.58 in the 200 just missed qualification.
The Royals did set a school record in the 4×400 relay, as Hodges, Hannah McDaniel, Marie Brashears and Kaylin Koopmans. Their record-setting time was 3:56.36 and put them in first place. The 4×100 relay also qualified, finishing in third.
McDaniel and Koopmans also qualified in individual events, with McDaniel among the leaders in the high jump and 400 while Koopmans joins McDaniel in the 400. McDaniel will be competitng in four events at the finals.
Evan Bradford, Shane Rowan and Bennie Kirkwood reserved spots at the championship meet in the boys mile, triple jump and high jump, respectively.
