After several rounds under par on Tuesday at the Channel League Golf Championship, scores climbed upwards at Soule Park on Wednesday with the title on the line.
Santa Barbara High senior Jack Perry emerged victorious, carding a 75 for the day’s best round that added up to a winning two-day total of one-over 145. Perry was able to salvage a round that suffered from a 3-hole stretch on the front nine in which Perry shot 6-over.
Day-one leaders Mickey Kirby and Shane Lebow fell off the pace, following up on their first-round 69s with a 78 and a 79, respectively.
“I thought that a lot of them thought they had to go low so I think some of the guys pressed a bit,” said Dons head coach James Bedard.
Lebow and Dos Pueblos’ Lane Fuller were affected by an AP Calculus exam they were scheduled to take in the morning. Lebow was penalized two shots while Fuller, who was delayed longer, was disqualified.
Lebow still moves on to CIF Individuals, which is May 17 on the Vineyard Course at River Ridge, along with Perry, Kirby, Dos Pueblos’ Carson Curtis, San Marcos’ Thayer White and Dodge Ward, and Buena’s Brett Silvernail.
