Once again Goleta’s Zack Paris won the 1-mile swim for the second week in a row at the 5th Reef and Run event at East Beach on Tuesday.
Paris, 21, finished with an overall time of 23:32, trailed by Goleta’s Katherine Warren, 20, who finished with the time of 24:48.
For the 4-mile run, “K. Candy,” 41, took first place this week. Her overall finish time was 27:09, which was over a minute faster than the second place winner, Gare Wu, 24, from Goleta, who finished in 28:51.0
In the duathalon, Goleta’s Lauren Capone, 21, blew away the other contestants with the overall mark of 33:33, which was over three minutes better than the next best result. Her swim leg was clocked at 19:22 and her run time was 14:12. Goleta’s Jeff Mumm, 28, took second in 36:56. His swim/run split was 22:16 and 14:40.
In last week’s event, Paris won the 1-mile race with a time of 23:41. Warren was on Paris’ heels again, closer though, with a time of 23:51.
Santa Barbara’s Shelly Hines, 30, came up with the win in last week’s 4-mile run. Her overall time was 24:22 while averaging 6:06 per mile. Greg Husak, 35, from Santa Barbara, averaged 6:15 a mile to finish in second with a time of 25:00.
The winner of Reef & Runs’s fourth Duathalon was this week’s second-place finisher, Mumm, who finished with an combined time of 37:10. His swim lasted 22:20 and his run time was 14:51. He beat the second-place finisher by just under six minutes. Sue Beatty, 47, from Carpinteria had an overall time of 43:52. Her swim time was 23:13 and her run time was 20:39.
