Nguyen, Chargers take fourth in D-I finals

Freshman Janelle Nguyen was the top local finisher in the CIF Division I Swimming Championships in Long Beach on Friday, as the Dos Pueblos freshman took fourth in the 500 freestyle with a season-best time of 4:58.34. The Charger girls took fourth as a team in the finals.

“This was huge considering they didn’t make the top-10 last year,” said coach Leslie Wiggins-Roth.

COMPLETE RESULTS

The DP girls put up best times in the 200 medley (1:48.95) and 200 free (1:38.38), finishing sixth in both. The 200 medley team consisted of Sami Hill, Michelle Dockendorf, Madison Faulkner and Nguyen, while the freestyle team included Faulkner, Hill, Kiley Neushul and Emily Rose Williams.

The Charger boys took sixth as a team and also turned in solid relay performances, including the 400 freestyle relay squad of Nolan Gardener, Theo Coyne, Josh Pighetti and Chase Racich taking fourth with an All-American consideration mark of 3:10.80.

Racich took 11th in the 500 free and seventh in the 100 free, while Darrell Eacret closed out his career with a season-best of 53.38 seconds in the 100 backstroke, good enough for 11th place.
