La Salle’s Allie Forillo overpowered Carpinteria’s softball team in Thursday’s CIF Div-VI quarterfinal, allowing a mere two hits to lead the Lancers into the semifinals with a 1-0 victory.
Carpinteria starting pitcher Catalina Maldonado was almost as effective, only giving up an unearned run in the fourth inning. Maldonado struck out six for the Warriors, who finish their season with a 15-9 record after two playoff wins.
“It was a great season,” said first-year Warriors head coach Henry Gonzales. “As young as we are, we grew up.”
Carpinteria, which entered the playoffs as the third-place team from the Frontier League, came close to knocking off its second league champion in the postseason, but La Salle instead improves to 23-6 with the victory.
The Warriors had a great chance to tie in the seventh inning, but couldn’t cash in a runner from third base. Emily Hernandez and Sarah Carrillo connected for the Warriors’ two hits.
