The magical run for Nikolay Ivanov and Regis Fastrez ended in the Southern Cal Regional doubles semifinals on Saturday at L.A. Pierce but the SBCC freshman duo still qualified for next weekend’s State Tournament in Newport Beach. Ivanov-Fastrez, the third seed, fell to Juan Arteaga-Pedro Arteaga, the seventh-seeded brothers from state finalist Ventura, 6-4, 6-3.
“It was a great run and the most important thing is we get to compete against the best in the state next week,” said coach Ryan Heinberg, whose duo is one of 16 doubles qualifiers (8 from the South, 8 from the North).
