Hard-to-hit Harris handles Royals

Dos Pueblos topped off its Channel League season with a crosstown 4-0 shutout of San Marcos on Friday, completing a 2-1 week that has the Chargers sitting pretty for the postseason.

Becky Estrada and Hannah Ball were the only Royals to record hits against Dos Pueblos’ Hannah Harris, who struck out her opponents more often than not. Harris tallied 11 strikeouts in the game.

Ashlynd Williams and Chloe Madill connected for doubles in a three-run second inning when the Chargers did most of their damage.

Though not as dominating, Royals pitcher Corinne Yingling turned in a positive outing according to her coach.

“It was the first game she had total control of her change-up and she got a lot of pop-ups off the change-up,” said Royals head coach Alex Sheldon.

Dos Pueblos, with one regular season game remaining, is 12-14 and 7-5 in league. San Marcos, 2-8 in league, has two games with Ventura next week while the Chargers play a non-league contest at Righetti.
