AUSTIN, Texas — Jane Doolittle finished comfortably in the top-12 in the high jump at the NCAA West Preliminary, becoming the fifth Gaucho to qualify for the final round of the NCAA Championships.
Doolittle cleared 5’11.25″ (1.81m) on her first attempt to secure qualification. She only missed one attempt – at 1.74m – during the course of the competition. The competition was halted at 1.81m, as the field had already been reduced to the 12 competitors who will advance to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore.
Two Gauchos were involved in the women’s triple jump. Tamara Thomas finished 25th with her best mark measuring 41’3.25″ (12.58m). Tayler Williams fouled on her first two attempts and wasn’t able to attack on her third and final attempt, settling for a 44th-place finish at 37’10.75″ (11.55m).
Likewise, two Gauchos took part in the women’s 5000m run. Amanda Moreno was closest to advancing to Eugene, as she finished 16th with a time of 16:59.53. It took a time of 16:42.27 to finish 12th and advance. Crystal Reed also participated in the 5k, but was unable to complete the race.
Finally, the men’s 4x400m relay posted a solid time of 3:09.18 but fell a couple seconds short of advancing. It took a time of 3:07.30 to qualify at-large.
The five Gauchos who have advanced to the NCAA Championships are Doolittle in the women’s high jump, Danielle Domenichelli in the women’s 10,000m, Julian deRubira in the men’s steeplechase, Ryan Martin in the 800m, and Kayla Smith in the women’s shot put.
The NCAA Track and Field Championships will take place on June 9-12 in Eugene, Ore.
