Santa Barbara High’s young volleyball team was swept out of the second round of the CIF Division I playoffs on Thursday, falling to host No. 4 Esperanza 25-17, 25-19, 25-17.
“They were just on fire tonight. They were the better team tonight, unfortunately,” said coach Chad Arneson. “It doesn’t take away from the success we’ve had this year, and I’m really proud of these kids.”
Zach Gones had seven kills and Alec Smyth added six for the Dons, who shared the Channel League title with Dos Pueblos this season.
“I’m proud of our six seniors, who really bought into what we were doing. They all got to play tonight and I’m going to miss them,” said Arneson.
The Dons finish the season at 16-5.
