Francesca DeAngelis, the top scorer in the Western State Conference this year, has signed a national letter-of-intent to play basketball at Alaska Anchorage. The Seawolves, an NCAA Division II school, went 24-5 last year.
DeAngelis, a 5-9 guard, averaged 20.2 points to earn first-team All-WSC and second-team All-State honors. She scored 30 or more three times, including a career-high 34 against Mt. San Jacinto on Dec. 18.
“Francesca is a multi-dimensional guard who can score from all over the court,” said Alaska Anchorage coach Tim Moser, who has led the Seawolves to a 108-20 record the past four seasons. “We are really impressed with her toughness and drive to succeed on and off the court.”
SBCC point guard Jake Kelly, an all-WSC choice in both volleyball and basketball, plans to play volleyball at UCSB in the fall. Chelsea Hewitt has accepted a scholarship to Missouri Valley College while Gigi Aplin will play at Cal Lutheran.
The Vaqueros went 19-12 in 2009-10 and won nine of their last 11 to finish second in the WSC North with a 10-2 record. They beat L.A. Southwest in the first round of the Southern Cal Regional before falling at top-seeded Fullerton.
