As CIF playoff draws progress, the competition naturally gets stiffer and the pressure rises.
Santa Barbara High’s tennis team can attest to that, as the Dons anxiously await Tuesday’s semifinal clash with third-seeded Corona del Mar. Santa Barbara, the No. 2 seed, won the coin flip and will host the Sea Kings on the Santa Barbara High courts.
The baseball and softball postseason began a week later than tennis and Tuesday’s action is only the second round.
Santa Barbara High’s baseball team will travel to Chaminade for its Division-II game while Cate hosts a Division-VII contest against No. 1 Cornerstone Christian. First pitch for the Dons is set for 3:15 p.m. while Cate’s game starts at 3:45 p.m.
Chaminade brought down PAC-7 champion Paso Robles 9-1 in the first round and Yucaipa upset No. 2-seeded Crespi 3-1, leaving the Dons as the only league champion remaining in their portion of the draw.
Carpinteria’s softball team is alive and well after a 4-1 first-round upset of Faith Baptist. The Warriors’ second-round matchup is against Marshall, another team that advanced through the first round by defeating a league champion. Start time for that one is 3:15 p.m.
