Chargers win game, coin toss

Dos Pueblos defeated visiting Campbell Hall 7-4 on Thursday in their regular season finale but the big news for the Chargers was that Buena’s loss to the Dons triggered a play-in game on Friday because the two teams finished tied for third in the Channel League.

Dos Pueblos won the coin flip later in the evening and will enjoy the comfort of Scott O’Leary Field in what will be the Chargers’ fourth game in four days.

Bradley Tirador picked up the win for the Chargers, spotting Campbell Hall four runs in the first inning before hunkering down and finishing with six scoreless innings.

The Chargers didn’t waste any time getting back into the game as Steven Reveles led off with an opposite field triple. Corey Micheel followed with an RBI single and two more singles by Michael Spiritosanto and Joe Huthsing loaded the bases for Josh Paden. With one swing of the bat, Paden put Dos Pueblos back in front 5-4.

“It was a no-doubter,” described Chargers head coach Nate Mendoza. “The only question was whether it was going to stay fair or not.”

Reveles wasn’t done at the plate, hitting a solo home run in the second inning. Jordan Drewish also provided a big hit with an RBI double in the sixth inning.

Friday’s game with Buena, which beat the Chargers in 2-of-3 meetings this year, begins at 3:15 p.m.
