Cardinals wrap up season with sweep of Flashes

It wasn’t an easy season, but the young Bishop Diego boys volleyball team finished it on the right note with a 25-18, 25-7, 25-11 sweep of Fillmore. Johnny Brand had nine kills with four digs and three blocks to lead the way while Chris Helkey had six kills, two blocks and a dig. Setter James Fazio dished out 28 assists.

The Cardinals, who do not have a senior on the team, finish the season at 4-9 overall and 4-6 in the Tri-Valley League.

“I think we’re gonna be really good next year. I’ve got a bunch of committed guys really dedicated to working hard in the offseason,” said coach Joe Reiken. “We’re moving up into Division II, so we’re hoping to be able to schedule some matches with Santa Barbara, San Marcos and DP.”
