Wright’s score is everything to Royals

While the sixth scorer in high school golf usually doesn’t matter much, on Tuesday, it meant everything.

Dylan Wright became San Marcos’ sixth-man of the year when his round of 83 was the deciding factor in the Royals’ Channel League victory over the Chargers at La Cumbre Country Club.

The two teams found themselves knotted up at 393 each after the first five scorecards were counted up like normal. Moving to the tiebreaker, the sixth score, Wright edged Tynan Daniels’ 85 to clinch it for the Royals.

Carson Curtis and Scott Bradford were co-medalists with matching 3-over 74s. John Etsell and Lane Fuller also carded identical scores at 77.

“Today’s greens were as hard as I’ve seen, they were freakish hard,” San Marcos’ Dodge Ward said. “We learned today how important our sixth man is, you just never know.”
