Thayer White, Dodge Ward and Scott Bradford brought home a tournament win for San Marcos on Monday, claiming the three-man Lompoc Easter Invitational title at La Purisma.
White won the tournament’s individual title with a five-over 77 after defeating Thousand Oaks’ Derek Larson on a playoff hole. White’s first two shots were less than ideal as he put himself in a fairway bunker with his tee shot, then way wide of the green after his second shot bounced off the cart path. But White rescued himself with what his coach, Dave Siordia, described as “the shot of the year” by chipping to within six feet of the pin to set up the winning put.
Ward closed with an 80 and Bradford an 81 to give the Royals the best score amongst 22 teams. It was the first tournament win for San Marcos in five years.
The Royals don’t return to Channel League play until next week.
