A week after opening the newly renovated Westmont Track with the Celebration meet, Westmont Track and Field traveled to Fresno to participate in a three-way meet with Azusa Pacific and Fresno Pacific.
The Warriors finished third in both the men’s and women’s competition. Fresno Pacific won the women’s contest with 126 points, Azusa Pacific posted 122 points and Westmont tallied 87 points. Azusa Pacific edged Fresno Pacific 124-119 on the men’s side with Westmont close behind at 110 points.
Brent Lagace placed first among collegiate athletes in the men’s javelin with a throw of 61.66m (202-3), while Andrew Kolodinski finished second with a mark of 56.08m (184-0). Lagace’s throw earned him an automatic qualification to the NAIA Outdoor Championship while Kolodinski met the minimum for a provisional qualification. Last week, Lagace set the school record with a throw of 63.00m (206-08).
Scott McDonald took first in the shot put with a throw of 13.88m (45-6.5) while Christian David won the men’s triple jump with a mark of 13.09m (42-11.5).
On the track, Jacob Goodin finished second in the men’s 1500m with an NAIA Outdoor Championships automatic qualifying time of 3:53.02. Goodin won the men’s 800m in a time of 1:57.10. Jake Jeanson claimed first in the men’s 3,000m in a time of 8:47.85.
Kristin Hempy and Laurel Stormans placed second and third in the women’s heptathlon scoring 3,958 points and 3,566 points respectively. Hempy’s mark is the third best in the Warrior record books.
The Warriors’ next opportunity to qualify for the nationals will be at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitation on Saturday, April 10.
