Albert Corral and Jesse Ferris finished second and third with scores of 74 and 75 on Monday, leading SBCC to a second-place men’s golf finish in WSC No. 5 at par-72 Saticoy CC in Ventura.
Andy Clayton shot 77 on a windy day for the Vaqueros, who finished at 390, four strokes shy of the winner, Canyons. Deano Giacomazzi of Canyons was the medalist at 73.
“Winds were gusting from 30 to 40 mph,” said SBCC coach Chuck Melendez. “I was very happy with our play. We lost some strokes at the end but we’re moving closer and closer to the cream of the crop.”
Canyons, ranked No. 1 in Southern Cal, is first in the WSC at 28-2, followed by Ventura (24-6), Bakersfield (20-10) and the Vaqueros (16-14), who went over the .500 mark for the first time this year.
