The Whittier Daily News reported on Thursday that El Rancho High School’s Daniel Herrera has signed a letter of intent to attend UCSB next fall and compete for the Gauchos’ cross country and track & field programs.
Herrera is a three-letter varsity athlete in both cross country and track. Herrera comes from a Dons cross country program that has won eight of the last nine Del Rio League titles.
UCSB’s men’s cross country team finished second in the Big West last season but will lose senior Scott Smith, who was UCSB’s strongest runner last year, finishing third in the conference then qualifying for the NCAA Championship in Indiana, where he placed 50th in the country.
