Three-run ninth not good for Chargers

Buena bit with three runs in the top of the ninth inning on Tuesday, bringing home a key 6-3 Channel League victory from Dos Pueblos.

The Chargers were hoping to build off the momentum of two wins last week over the Dons but instead fall to 3-5 in league with four games to play.

“We’re kinding of hanging off the edge right now,” said Chargers head coach Nate Mendoza. “Now every game is the biggest game.”

Buena scored three runs in the first two innings before Joe Huthsing’s three-run homer in the fourth inning brought the Chargers even at 3-3. DP had a chance to take a lead in the sixth inning but failed to score after loading the bases with no outs.

Huthsing finished 2-for-3 with 3 RBIs and Josh Paden recorded a team-high three hits for the Chargers. Corey Micheel and Michael Spiritosanto scored on Huthsing’s round-tripper.

Scott Zeman picked up the victory for the Bulldogs, who are also 3-5 in league. The two teams have their final meeting on Thursday at Buena.
