Snyder pulls out five-inning no-no

SBCC’s Kailey Snyder tossed a no-hitter in a 12-0 WSC softball victory over L.A. Pierce on Tuesday and Paty Martinez went 3-for-3 with two triples and five RBIs. In the nightcap at Woodland Hills, the Vaqueros won 15-1 behind three hits and four RBIs by Kellee Venturi. Both games were shortened to five innings by the eight-run rule.

Snyder, a freshman from St. Joseph High, struck out seven and didn’t walk a batter for the Vaqueros (22-14, 8-7 WSC Gold Division), who’ve won four of their last five. She would have had a perfect game if not for a first-inning error. Martinez had a three-run triple during a six-run second inning. Laura Cannon went 2-4 with two RBIs and Amanda Sharp was 2-4 with an RBI.

In the second game, Jeana Carrillo threw a three-hitter with two strikeouts. Venturi went 3-4 with four RBIs and Nicole Adair was 2-3 for Santa Barbara, which scored five in the third inning and seven in the fifth.

The Vaqueros took the season series 3-0 against a Pierce team that has just one win this year.

“Sometimes when you play a struggling team, you don’t play your best but we were sharp today,” said coach Paula Congleton. “The fences are deep here and we hit some bombs.”

SBCC has three games remaining — Thursday at Hancock and Tuesday at home in the regular-season finale, a 1 p.m. doubleheader with Cuesta.
