Nikolay Ivanov, Regis Fastrez and Zach Scott all won second-round matches on Friday at Pershing Park to move into the Round of 16 in the WSC Individual Men’s Tennis Tournament.
Ivanov, the No. 2 seed, had a bye in the first round, then beat Dinusha Wijesurija of Glendale 6-4, 6-1. Ivanov. a freshman from Bulgaria, will take on Pedro Arteaga of Ventura at 9 a.m. Saturday with the winner advancing to the Southern Cal Regional on April 29-May 1 at Cal St. Northridge.
Fastrez and Scott also posted straight-set wins and will face players from WSC champion Ventura on Saturday. Fastrez will take on No. 6-seed Thomas Millet while Scott faces top-seeded Robby Diamond.
In doubles, Tommy McNichols and Quintin Richelle won a three-setter, 6-4, 6-7 (1), 6-3 to move into the round of 16 at noon Saturday. Ivanov-Fastrez, the No. 2 seed, had a bye as did teammates Alex Zazove-Zach Scott and Nick Bonn-Justin Kautz.
