SBHS swimmers grab first wins of the season

Both Santa Barbara High swimming teams picked up their first wins of the season on Thursday, as the boys beat Ventura 104-79 and the girls edged the Cougars 95-92.

On the girls side, the Dons trailed by five points heading into the final individual event, the 100 breaststroke. Maddie Trabucco won the event to bring Santa Barbara within three points heading into the day’s final event, the 400 free relay. The Dons had to finish first and third in order to get the victory and did, with Trabucco anchoring the A relay and Camille Wissman leading off the B relay.

Wissman also won the 200 and 500 free, while Samantha King won the 50 free and finished second in the 100 free. Amanda Wilson was second in both the 200 IM and the 100 fly.

The boys competition was a bit lees suspenseful, partly because the Dons swept the diving portion to take an early 13-0 advantage. They went first and third in all three relay events, and Karl Boscacci won the 200 IM and 100 fly. Sam Foley won the 100 free and was second in the 100 back, while Tarry Burkhardt was second in the 100 fly and third in the 100 breast.
