SBCC’s Quentin Richelle and Tommy McNichols upset seventh-seeded Ari Cohen and Logan Feldstein of L.A. Pierce 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 in the Round of 16 doubles on Saturday in the WSC Individual Men’s Tennis Tournament at Pershing Park.
Richelle-McNichols earned a spot in the Southern Cal Regional on April 29-May 1 at Cal State Northridge, along with their second-seeded teammates, Nikolay Ivanov and Regis Fastrez, who won a 6-4, 6-7 (6), 7-5 thriller over Gabriel Vlahos and Pedro Ayala of Ventura.
Alez Zazove-Zach Scott, the No. 6 seed, fell in straight sets as did Nick Bonn-Justin Kautz.
Fastrez and Scott both lost in the Round of 16 singles. Ivanov, the No. 2 seed, defaulted to Ventura’s Pedro Arteago. Ventura, the WSC team champion, grabbed seven of the eight singles berths.
Four Vaqueros will compete in the Ojai Invitational, which starts Thursday. Zazove is entered in singles and doubles with Scott. Fastrez will play doubles with Ivanov.
