San Marcos’ relay teams highlighted the Royals’ weekend at the Mt. SAC Invitational, where the Royals girls 4×200 team broke a 22-year-old school record.
Elysia Hodges, Hannah McDaniel, Courtney Laviale and Kaylin Koopmans combined to post a time of 1:45.29. The girls 4×400 team of Hannah McDaniel, Elysia Hodges, Marie Brashears and Kaylin Koopmans also turned in their best time of the season and won their heat.
The boys 4×100 team of Justin Duran, Derrick Dallmeyer, Dillon Kraus, and Randee Harvey placed third in their seeded race with a time of 43.86.
The Royals also fared well in the field events. Shane Rowan shattered his PR in the triple jump to place second with a mark of 45-01. Benny Kirkwood cleared 6-6 in the high jump in both the day and night events on Saturday and finished 3rd in each competition. High-jumper Hannah McDaniel didn’t touch the bar until 5-8 and her final height of 5-6 was good for third place.
Royals head coach Marylin Hantgin was thrilled with the results as San Marcos has never brought home so many medals.
