Robert Lewis Stevenson’s big and talented boys lacrosse team defeated Cate 12-4 on Saturday afternoon, a day after bringing down Thacher on the school’s traditional trip south.
Cate started out well enough, maintaining possession and getting the game’s first four shots. None connected, however, and Stevenson took control with a 5-1 first quarter lead.
Mackie Greason scored three times in the first half to keep the Rams in the contest. But a 7-3 halftime score turned to a six-goal deficit after RLS scored the third quarter’s first two goals.
Randy Person tacked on Cate’s fourth goal with a score in the fourth quarter.
Cate head coach Steve O’Neill praised Lukas Ferrer for his work taking face-offs in the second half.
“(We) played hard, but our failure to clear the ball effectively, along with too many unforced errors, undermined our effort,” O’Neill said.
Cate falls to 2-1 on the season. The Rams have a chance to rebound on Wednesday when they host Watsonville at 3 p.m.
