Kyle Rieb shot a sizzling round of 68 in heavy winds on Thursday at par-70 Buenaventura Golf Club, leading the San Marcos boys golf team to a 359-375 Channel League win over Ventura.
The victory clinches a playoff spot for the Royals.
Rieb shot a remarkable 30 on the back nine.
“We are proud of Kyle for finally coming out of his dark days. He was due,” said teammate Dodge Ward.
The most remarkable shot of the day came off the club of sophomore Thayer White, who recorded a double-eagle, also known as an “albatross.”
White, who finished at 72, holed out his second shot on the par-5 fourth hole.
“I’m very proud of my guys today. They haven’t played great in the wind this year so this was a great day for them,” said coach David Siordia. “This is a great way to end out heads up season. Our focus now switches to individuals and then CIF team in 2 weeks.”
