Santa Barbara’s boys golf team team flirted with an under-par week on Thursday, recording a season-low at home course Montecito Country Club in a 357-429 Channel League victory over Ventura.
Two days after the Dons tallied a season-low 355 at Glen Annie, Santa Barbara came through with its best round of the year at the par-71 MCC. The Dons were a combined two-over in two matches(10 rounds) this week.
Jack Perry and Shane Lebow led the charge on Thursday with matching 3-under 68s. Each of the Dons’ scores were at or under 75, with Spencer Mikles carding a career-low 72 thanks to four birdies on the back nine.
In 15 matches this season, Perry is now 6-under overall.
“That’s really incredible,” Santa Barbara head coach James Bedard said. “We’ve played some really tough courses this year.”
The Dons (6-1, 13-2) learned that they had clinched at least a share of their fourth straight league title after hearing of Dos Pueblos’ defeat of Buena on Thursday. Santa Barbara can win it outright with a victory in its final league match of the season next Thursday.
