Santa Barbara High’s Jack Perry went under par yet again, shooting a two-under 70 in Saturday at the Champions Invitational in Indio. Unfortunately, the Dons faded a bit in the elite 20-team tournament and finished in 5th place, 15 strokes behind winner Servite.
Perry, headed for Northwestern next year, had his first-ever bogey-free tournament round, picking up 16 pars and two birdies.
“Jack is establishing himself as one of the top golfers in all of Southern California. He’s Looking forward to a bright future, but he’s also focusing on finishing an exceptional high school career,” said coach James Bedard.
Sean Searls shot a solid 77 despite a costly two-stroke penalty for dragging the rake in a bunker before shooting. Shane Lebow and Mickey Kirby each shot 79s while Ray Gerow was forced to withdraw due to fatigue.
“It was just a tough day. I think they all went out looking for the perfect round and felt like they weren’t allowed to make a mistake,” said Bedard.
The Dons play Buena on Tuesday.
