Stockton – No. 12 UCSB (17-10, 3-2) fell to No. 16 Pacific (22-9, 4-1), 13-9, on Sunday. With the loss, UCSB ends the regular season as third in the Big West, and the Tigers take the Big West regular season title.
The Tigers outscored the Gauchos 2-1 in the first quarter, then 4-3 in the second, leaving UCSB down 6-4 at half. In the third, the Gaucho offense began to click, posting three goals in the quarter. Unfortunately for UCSB, Pacific continued to fire on all cylinders, notching three more goals of its own to maintain the two-point lead.
In the final period UCSB stumbled again, giving up four points while only scoring two, and ending the game in a 13-9 defeat.
The Gauchos will be back in action next weekend in Long Beach, when they play in the Big West Tournament. UCSB will be the third seed and will open up the annual three-day conference tournament on Friday, April 23 against the sixth seed, Long Beach State (8-19, 0-5).
