No. 12 UC Santa Barbara (17-9, 3-1) overpowered No. 17 UC Davis (15-16, 1-3), 10-6, in Saturday’s Big West match-up. Kathryn Nelson and Christie Clark each picked up a hat trick, and goalie Ruth Milne collected 10 saves in the contest.
The Gauchos were dominant from the start, as junior Kathryn Nelson posted three goals in the first period, leaving the score at 3-1. In middle two quarters, UCSB continued to pour it on, posting five more goals, while limiting the Aggies to just two.
With the score at 8-3 going into the fourth, Davis attempted to mount a comeback. The Aggies were able to squeeze out three goals in the final period, but were answered by two more Gaucho scores, ending the contest in a 10-6 UCSB victory.
The Gauchos will be back in action tomorrow, when they close out the regular season in Stockton, Calif. against Pacific.
