Carpinteria pitcher Cat Maldonado was perfect in every inning but the sixth on Thursday, and it was enough of a slip for the Warriors to drop a 5-0 Frontier League contest to Nordhoff.
All five of the Rangers’ hits, three of them for extra bases, came in their five-run sixth inning. Maldonado, who had retired the first 15 batters she faced, finished up with a 1-2-3 seventh inning.
“We played excellent defense, the sixth inning just got us,” said Warriors head coach Henry Gonzales.
Myriah Diaz, Carmen Campi and Cierra Kephart tallied hits for Carpinteria.
The Warriors move on to host Nipomo in a Saturday double-header.
