Local standouts wrap up at Arcadia meet

San Marcos’ Shane Rowan took second in the triple jump with a mark of 44-2 at the prestigious 43-year-old Arcadia Invitational track meet on Friday night, while his teammate Hannah McDaniel was fourth in the high jump, clearing 5-6.

Dos Pueblos junior Nicholas Scarvelis ended up fifth in Saturday’s invitational shot put competition with a heave of 57-9. The event was won by Sam Crouser of Gresham High School in Oregon, who threw an impressive 66-4. Scarvelis also competed in the discus, where he finished ninth with a mark of 176-1. Chargers junior Erin Campbell took 17th in the finals of the girls 800 at 2:24.08.

The Royals’ girls 4×200 relay team took fifth in their heat, and the boys 4×100 got into the competition as an alternate in the last minute.

The Chargers and Royals are set to clash in a crosstown Channel League matchup at DP on Thursday.
