Kim keeps Royals in the lead

David Kim recorded only one of San Marcos’ 12 hits on Thursday but it sure was a big one.

Kim’s double with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning scored Nick Stathopoulos from second base to give the Royals a 4-3 Channel League victory over Buena.

Nick Stathopoulos (8) crosses the plate with the winning run on Thursday.

San Marcos' David Kim drives his game-winning double in the bottom of the seventh inning.

“He’s really one of the clutch guys for us,” said San Marcos head coach Rob Crawford, whose team strung together three hits with two outs in the seventh to get the win.

Stathopoulos, who had two hits and the winning run on offense, pitched a complete game on the mound to pick up the victory.

Jimmy Brakka led San Marcos with three hits and Riley Moore also had a multi-hit game, going 2-4.

The victory evens San Marcos’ overall record at 9-9 while making the Royals 2-4 in the Channel League. San Marcos heads to its bye week next week after a Friday return game at Buena.

Buena moves to 3-3 in league and 8-10 overall.
