SBCC freshmen Nikolay Ivanov and Regis Fastrez won two three-set matches on Friday to advance to the semifinals of the Southern Cal Regional men’s tennis tournament at Cal State Northridge.
Ivanov-Fastrez, the No. 3 seed, outlasted Paul Negapetyan-Dinusha Wijesuriya of Glendale 6-4, 2-6, 6-3, then rallied to beat James Griffin-Matt Booth of Bakersfield 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.
They’ll take on the seventh-seeded Arteaga brothers, Juan and Pedro, of Ventura on Saturday at noon at L.A. Pierce in Woodland Hills.
Ivanov, from Bulgaria, and Fastrez, from Belgium, qualified for the State Tournament in Newport Beach, where they’ll compete in doubles on May 7-8
