Nikolay Ivanov and Regis Fastrez secured the match-winning doubles point with an 8-5 victory on Tuesday, leading SBCC past L.A. Pierce 5-4 in a WSC men’s tennis match at Woodland Hills.
The rematch was much closer than the first round when the Vaqueros (7-5, 6-1) downed Pierce 8-1. Ivanov, Alex Zazove, Kyle Lewis and Zack Scott posted singles wins on Tuesday.
“They kind of snuck up on us,” said coach Ryan Heinberg, whose team was playing its first match in two weeks. “I don’t know if it was all the practice time we missed over Spring Break or what.”
The victory sets up a first-place showdown in the final regular-season match on Thursday when the Vaqueros travel to face unbeaten Ventura.
