Joe Gottwald put up unreal numbers, but the Cate volleyball team couldn’t pull off a win on Friday at Channel Islands, falling 29-27, 25-19, 23-25, 26-24.
Gottwald had 33 digs, 25 kills and five aces in the match, while libero Rey Canseco added an astounding 43 more digs. Houston Bradley also had four aces.
“Both teams played really scrappy defense and there were a lot of long rallies. We played well, but we just had a couple of bad breaks here and there,” said coach Dan Terry.
The Rams (3-3) were down by eight points in the fourth set but battled back to tie it up at 24-24. They’ll play at rival Laguna Blanca on Wednesday.
