Glass half full for Vaqueros in doubleheader

Joan Cannon went 3-for-5 and Lindsie Holloway had a two-run double during a five-run sixth inning on Saturday, guiding SBCC past L.A. Valley 7-2 in a nonconference softball game at East L.A. In the second game, East L.A. rallied for a 4-3 win in Monterey Park.

Sara Gazzaniga and Kailey Snyder combined on a three-hitter in the opener with Snyder striking out five in 3 1/3 innings of relief for the Vaqueros (20-14). Janelle Wong had two singles and an RBI while Nicole Adair had two of Santa Barbara’s 14 hits.

Laura Cannon staked the Vaqueros to a 2-0 lead with a two-run homer in the fifth inning of the nightcap. She leads the squad with three homers. SBCC scored in the sixth to go ahead 3-1 before the Huskies rallied for two in the sixth and the go-ahead run in the seventh.

The Vaqueros continue their five-game road trip on Tuesday with a WSC doubleheader at L.A. Pierce in Woodland Hills.
