Four UCSB men’s volleyball players were recognized by the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) Thursday as Jeff Menzel was named to the All-MPSF Third Team, Scott Slaughter and Andy McGuire picked-up Honorable Mention accolades, and Dylan Davis was selected to the All-MPSF Freshmen Team.
Menzel, a junior outside hitter, leads the nation in kills (588) and is second in kills per set (5.16). He led the MPSF in total points (672.5) and points per set (5.9). The Santa Barbara native set career highs in kills (34), aces (5), and total points (37.0). This season, Menzel moved into third on UCSB’s career attack attempts list and slid into fourth in terms of career kills.
Menzel earned honorable mention honors from the MPSF in 2009 and 2008.
McGuire posted a solid junior campaign. The libero led UCSB in digs with 322, setting a UCSB single season record. He ranks third nationally in total digs and tenth in the country with 2.75 digs per set. The Manhattan Beach, Calif., native recorded 19 matches with 10 or more digs, four matches with 15 or more digs, and set a career-high with 22 digs vs. Long Beach State (1/13). He is fifth on UCSB’s career digs list with 683.

Slaughter, who hails from Newport Beach, earned an honorable mention nod for the second consecutive season. His .455 hitting percentage ranks fifth nationally and fourth in the MPSF. The middle blocker’s attack percentage is the third-best ever in a single season at UCSB. He led the Gauchos in blocks with 95 and was third in total points (310.5).
Davis made an immediate impact as a middle blocker during his first season on campus. The Newport Beach, Calif., native started 19 matches, leading the team in blocks on seven occasions. He was second on the team with a .415 attack percentage and third on the team with 77 blocks. Davis recorded nine blocks on March 13 at Pepperdine, the most by any Gaucho in a single match during the 2010 season.
Stanford outside hitter Brad Lawson was named the league’s Player of the Year and Hawai’i opposite Jonas Umlauft was honored as Freshman of the Year. Stanford’s John Kosty garnered Coach of the Year accolades.
