Cate School hosted the Condor League’s first track meet of the season on Wednesday, bringing together the Rams, Thacher, Ojai Valley School and Cornerstone Christian.
Cate had several multiple event winners on its boys and girls teams.
Freshman Ema Boateng and junior Spencer McAvoy were the standouts, winning three events on the day. Boateng scorched the field in both the 100 and 200 sprints while also anchoring the boys 4×100 relay. McAvoy was part of the winning Rams relay team in the 4×400 and recorded individual victories in the 800 meter and the 300-meter hurdles.

Roy Young swept the throwing events for the boys, placing first in the shot put and discus. In all, Cate recorded first-place finishes in 11 of the 15 events.
The Cate girls dominated the field events as Addison Mayfield and senior captain Linzy Prudden each posted two first-places. Prudden took the discus and the triple jump while Mayfield swept up the shot put and long jump. Freshman Kaitlyn Gulock captured the high jump with a leap of four feet, four inches.
The Rams girls almost triumphed in both relays but were slightly edged by Thacher in the 4×400 relay. The day’s last race ended up being one of the most exciting, with Cate senior Grace Williams coming close to running down Thacher on the anchor leg of the 4×400 only to cross one hundreth of a second behind. Jasmin Sherwood, Stefanie Flores, Faith Donaldson and Mena Kalakoh comprised Cate’s winning 4×100 relay team.
