Jesse Ferris fired a 2-under 69 on Wednesday at Marshall Canyon GC in La Verne and SBCC took third in a tightly bunched men’s golf field at WSC No. 8.
Ferris tied for first with Alex Macaluso and Chris Baingo, both of Canyons.?Canyons won the meet with a season-best score of 5-under 350. Glendale was second at 363, followed by Santa Barbara (364), Ventura (367) and Bakersfield (368).
Ferris, a sophomore from Encinitas, matched his season low and shaved nine strokes off his total from Monday’s meet at Oakmont CC. It was his third medalist honor this year and first in a WSC meet. Albert Corral carded a 72, Ross Martin shot 73
Canyons is first in the WSC standings at 46-2. Ventura is second at 35-13 with SBCC third at 29-19.? “We avoided the rain and there wasn’t much wind,” said coach Chuck Melendez. “This was one of the easier courses we’ve played. We looked better today and the guys are starting to play up to their abilities.”
The Vaqueros hope to secure a playoff spot in the WSC Finals, a 36-hole event on Monday at Spanish Hills in Camarillo.
