Cougars cave in to Dons

Santa Barbara’s boys volleyball gave visiting Ventura a set and not much else on Thursday, eliminating the Cougars in four games 25-16, 25-14, 23-25, 25-19.

Alec Smyth, who sat the third game, recorded a team-high 13 kills for the Dons.

“He’s pretty much the glue of our team,” said Dons head coach Chad Arneson of Smyth.

Austin Reiter and Clifford Anderson were also threats at the net for Santa Barbara, posting seven and nine kills respectively. Arneson also liked the performance from his setters Gavin Trudeau and Blake Williams.

“Those guys made some great sets for us tonight,” Arneson said.

Santa Barbara improves to 13-3, 6-1 in Channel League with two matches to play. The Dons will have Senior Night on Tuesday when they host Harvard-Westlake followed by their league-season finale on Thursday at Buena.
